audience feedback

The people i have shown my thriller opening to all said that they really liked it and that it was a really good example of a thriller. My mum and dad both said that they really enjoyed it and that it was really well made for students. They also likes the whole enigma of the envelope and that it made them want to watch more. My dad especially liked the scenes where we was beating up jack in the cellar, he said that the location we picked to film was a good choice as you cant tell where it is, its a mystery. A few of my friends in the rugby academy said that it was really good and they enjoyed it but said that the scenes of where the envelope is exchanged were very dark and it was hard to see the envelope being exchanged. They also said that the build up to the exchange could have been longer but they still enjoyed it.

Screening

below is the finished thriller opening which i have shown to my family. i have shown it to my parents and my grandparents who are obviously not apart of my sixth form and are not apart of my media lessons. so when i showed them the opening it would have been the first time they had seen it. i showed my mum and dad via the Xbox one through the YouTube app so it was on the TV. i also showed my grandparents via iPad. my mum and dad already new about the thriller before it was finished as my mum help me secure a location to film. i told my grandparents speaking to them when i saw them. as well as showing my family i have also shown my friends, as most of the my friends attend the same sixth form as me i showed them on the computers at school, but my friends that do not attend the same sixth form as me i showed them through my smartphone on the YouTube app.

Finished Thriller Opening

Evaluation Question 7

Looking back at you preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned from it to the product?

during the preliminary task we included 180 degree rule, which is where you should stay on the same side of the room. also in the preliminary task we used eye line match, where Danny, the suspect, is looking up and the next scene shows the clock so this tells us that Danny is looking at the clock. a match on action was used and also a other the shoulder. the match on action was when jack, the police officer, is walking through the door which carries on to the other scene. as the other the shoulder was when Jack and Danny were having the conversation. if i was to compare this to my thriller opening i believe that we learned in the preliminary task we placed in our opening, in our opening we used the 180 degree rule when we filmed in the cellar and out side we only filmed on one side of the room and on one side of the street. we also included a match on action, which we used when you see jack walking down the stairs and then in the next scene you see jack walking off the last step and carry on walking very makes it look like jack never stopped walking. Just like the preliminary task we also used an eye line match in our thriller. this is when Danny is looking at something and then the next shot shows the exchange taking place and jack walking away with the envelope and then a close up shot of Danny watching again. we did not include an over the shoulder shot due to the fact that there wasn't a conversation in our thriller.

during the preliminary task out quality of shots were very good. we moved the camera fluidly and steady, this is because everything that was filmed was filmed on a tripod so this made the camera steady and easy to rotate. where as in our thriller a lot of our shots we had to do holding the camera, as we did a lot of hand held filming i think that the shots were very steady and very well held, there was only one shot where i think that camera work was not its best, this is when jack is dragging jack to do the water boarding.

the preliminary task did not include much sound apart from, the sound of the clock ticking which i edited in and the dialogue. comparing this to out thriller opening we used diegetic and non-diegetic sound. for example in our thriller we had a soundtrack, dialogue and we also used some diegetic sound which we picked up when jack stepped on glass, with this we used a sound bridge as well.

the costumes and props in our preliminary task were not planned, as we was in class at the time we recorded it also as it took more than one day to film some parts on the preliminary task people are wearing different costumes. However if we compare this to our thriller, we planned our costumes in our production meetings. we decided that we was going to have dark casual clothing, for example black top, black jacket, dark colour jeans. we also made sure that we wore the same clothes when we was filming.

lastly the lighting in our preliminary task was very bright as we was in doors and used the lights in the classroom, but if we compare this to our thriller the lighting in the scenes of the cellar are very good as it is inside. However the scenes we shot outside were rather dark but not too dark, to an extent we wanted it to be dark so that the white envelope stood out but we also wanted to see the people exchanging the envelope, this was hard to see as it was too dark you could only make the outline of the actors.

designing and making title sequence

In our film James Casal made the title sequence. this Means that James was choosing the order in which to put everything in.

1. Stone age studios presents
2. A film by James Casal
3. Starring Jack Fraser
4. Danny Canary & Jack Reardon
5. Directed By James Casal
6. The Collection.

We made the titles, by first going onto the title tab on top of the premier pro program.
Then you press default still,
Then you can choose to rename the title if you want,
Then a small window will appear, in this you can choose to change the text size, the font colour then you close the window and the title should appear. Finally the box below should show you the title and you can drag and drop it into where you want it on your timeline.
